Colonic irrigation is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine, without the use of drugs. By introducing filtered and temperature regulated water into the colon, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. This process is repeated a few times during a session.
Often overlooked, your colon (or large intestine) is a vital part of your digestive system. With a length of approximately 1.5 metres, this hollow tube is composed of layers of muscle and muscle tissue and is responsible for moving digested food and waste products by peristalsis for elimination. Your colon also houses good bacteria (flora), is involved in water balance maintenance and absorbs minerals and vitamins into the blood stream.
Unfortunately, the acidic and toxic lifestyle of recent times greatly challenges the optimum functioning of this organ. As a result, an array of health concerns related to the digestive system can develop such as skin problems, weakened immunity, fatigue, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, food intolerance, back pain and many more. Dr Norman Walker was an advocate of raw juice therapy, raw foods, distilled water and colonic hydrotherapy. He believed that a series of 6 colonics twice per year helps nature keep your body healthy and disease free.
At Mullum Sari, we use the Libbe system which is often referred to as the ‘open system’. An open system is gravity fed with a continuous water flow. Subsequent bowel releases and water intake are within the control of client and client’s natural body processes. This is the key difference between an ‘open system’ and a ‘closed system’ where water intake and bowel release is controlled solely by a practitioner.
Once the client becomes comfortable with the colonic procedure, repeat colonics allow for temperature control to be managed by the client; changing temperature from warm to cool and back to warm is
referred to as colon hydrotherapy. The changing of temperature has a stimulating effect on the bowels walls and can assist with bowel releases.

Some people have a sense of apprehension or anxiety around colonic irrigation but usually after the first session they realise that it’s an organically natural & simple procedure that can actually be quite pleasant as it often brings instant relief to a range of digestive disorders.
Of course it’s not always going to be a comfortable experience to have a colonic, especially the first time. Some people report feeling slightly nauseous or experience mild cramping during the treatment.
Preparing yourself well for your colonic treatment can often help to make your colonic more comfortable
through to relaxing and for some, a great relief.
Sessions are 40 minutes. Our recommended package is a minimum of 3 sessions over a 1-2 week period and a follow-up colonic monthly or bi-monthly depending your individual needs and goals.
If you are having colonics as part of a supplemented detox program, 6 sessions over 1 week is recommended.
This isn’t to say a single treatment is of no value, but we would suggest you discuss this with your chosen health care professional who will be able to assess your individual needs and goals.
